Indecopi

The National Institute for the Defense of Competition and Protection of Intellectual Property – INDECOPI – was created in November 1992, through Law Decree No. 25868.

Its functions are market promotion and protection of consumers’ rights. In addition, it promotes fair and honest competition in Peruvian economy, safeguarding all forms of intellectual property: from trademarks and copyrights to patents and biotechnology.

INDECOPI is a Specialized Public Agency, ascribed to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, with legal capacity in domestic public law. Consequently, it has functional, technical, economic, budgetary and administrative autonomy (Legislative Decree No. 1033).

As a result of its work in promoting regulations for fair and honest competition among Peruvian economic agents, INDECOPI is currently conceived as a Citizen Service oriented agency particularly concerned with fostering a quality culture in order to achieve the complete satisfaction of its clients: the citizens, the business community and the State.
